Staying healthy requires knowing where one stands in terms of their health, what they want to achieve or maintain and making the hard core daily habits and healthy lifestyle changes needed to achieve the desired health goals. This involves going for a medical checkup every 3 months to get updated on one’s health status, setting health goals and doing what needs to be done to achieve those health goals daily.

You have to put in and do the work.

It all boils down to lifestyle changes and habits. Change your habits and change your life. This may involve substituting junk food, drugs, alcohol, smoking, and toxic food to things like a healthy diets, exercise, meditation, good sleep, staying hydrated, cleanliness.. Etc.

Staying healthy and well also involves getting out of a toxic environment, job or relationship that drives your mental health crazy and choosing peace because whatever affects your mind affects your health and entire wellbeing. Choose your sanity over money and material possessions.

Get enough exercise. Hit the gym or swimming pool twice or more times a week. If you can’t then work out from home. There are a lot of fitness apps and exercise videos out there. You just have to find the right plan for your body and fitness level to get started today. Exercise keeps you in shape, allows good blood and energy flow, relieves stress and reduces risk to illnesses like blood clots, heart diseases. It also improves ones stamina and body efficiency.

A healthy balanced diet is also essential for one to stay well and healthy. This constitutes mainly organic non processed food, fruits and vegetables. A meal plan from your nutritionist can help you get started today depending on your body physique and health related goals. However there is no magic formula and your mom was right about telling you eat your vegetables and that salad. Just eat food less in sugar, fruits, vegetables, smoothies, organic unprocessed food, and good meat for non-vegans.  A healthy diet coupled with a good exercise routine is top for living healthy and well.

Getting enough sleep and rest is also important for living healthy and well. We are not machines. Despite all the needs, duties and monetary requirements at hand, one always needs to have a work life balance and set aside enough time to relax and rest. When we rest, the body gets time to rejuvenate, rebuild and recover from all that stress and work load.  One needs to sleep for at least 7 hours a day or more. This may also involve getting a good mattress, and doing things that bring calm and rest like doing a hobby, playing music, going in nature, meditation, yoga, painting …etc.

It’s also very important to know where one stands Vis a Vis their health by going for a regular checkup at their hospital monthly or at least once every month. Most health insurance policies offer this but those without insurance can also pay a small fee at a good hospital for a health check up to know where they stand health wise. Doing a health and body inventory can help you make realistic health goals and do exactly what is needed to achieve them. This can include gaining a little weight, maintaining that sugar level, eating certain foods to maintain body balance like hormones, calcium, iron and setting up the appropriate exercise or meal plan that’s in line with your health status.

Take care of your mind, de stress, avoid depression, be happy and live. Everything that affects your mental health and mood negatively is a catalyst for deteriorating health and wellness. You might find that besides external factors like genetics and poor health lifestyle choices, you start to age faster than you actually are.

Toxicity affects your body growth, you cannot use that energy to rejuvenate as you are always in a fight or flight defensive mode. Hormonal levels become elevated, you lose your appetite, you don’t get enough sleep and your mind is always thinking about the problem instead of focusing on the good things that help your entire wellbeing and growth.

We only get one life. Choose happiness over that toxic relationship, job, environment, family members, and neighborhood. Move to another city, get a healthier job, find a compatible good non narcissistic partner, go to another country, and find your tribe. Get to live.

When your mental health is down, you cannot grow: you will perform poorly at work, relationships will be affected and everything will fall apart. If you cannot mitigate, avoid or reduce the problem, then get out of it. Make sure that you are not the problem.

Always remember that a healthy life starts with you; your choices, habits and environment. Do what is best for you. In the end what you choose or accept is how you live.

Don’t be brainwashed in thinking that you are stuck or don’t have what it takes to change your life. You have the power. Make those changes and habits bit by bit and one day at a time. With time it will compound and you’ll see great results.
